Diana Steadman, a 500 Hour Registered Yoga Teacher and Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher, serving the Kemptville and surrounding area, is passionate about sharing the teachings of yoga and the many benefits yoga offers. Convinced that anyone can enjoy practicing yoga, Diana offers modifications and variations of poses so that students of all abilities and body types find enjoyment in her classes.
Diana guides students to follow the yogic principle of ahimsa, meaning non-harming, by listening to their body and breath. Using these cues from the body, students learn to find their own unique expression of the poses.
Filled with a sense of gratitude Diana recognizes the gifts that teaching yoga offers. “For me the best part of teaching is when you observe students experiencing the healing effects of their practice. I am humbled by the vastness of what I have yet to learn and experience for myself and I am grateful to all of my teachers who inspire me to continue on this journey” Diana says.
By those who know her best, Diana is described as a kind and caring soul. Her personality along with her background in nursing motivate Diana to create a therapeutic setting for her students. Whether you are coming to yoga because of aches and pains or perhaps you seek relief from daily stress, you can rest assured Diana will welcome you with a kind and caring heart.
Diana’s journey to yoga has taken a long and winding path. From her first experiences following yogi Eric Shiffmann on a VHS tape in high school, to the Ashtanga classes she took to cope with postpartum mood disorder following the birth of her son, Diana found the combination of a physically demanding class combined with mindful breathing practices to be the perfect way to let go of stress. In 2008, Diana moved with her family to Kemptville where she began classes at The Bodhi Tree Yoga Centre.
With encouragement from her teacher Maitri Devi, Diana began her in depth studies of yoga with a yin yoga teacher training at the Bodhi Tree during the spring of 2017. Receiving training in mindfulness and meditation from her teacher Gayatri opened Diana’s mind to the possibility of teaching others to practice yoga not only for the physical perks but also the emotional, mental and spiritual benefits. Awestruck by the sheer vastness of the science of yoga and left with a burning desire to learn more, she continued her studies by completing her 200 hour yoga teacher training at the Bodhi Tree in the summer of 2018 with the support of OmShanti, Maitri Devi and Gayatri.
With curiosity and a passion to support expectant parents, Diana sought out a 300 hour yoga teacher training with a focus on perinatal maternal health through Awakened Spirit Yoga. Diana completed that training in 2023 and upgraded her registration with the Yoga Alliance to a 500 HR Registered Yoga Teacher.
