Feeling lost is how you know you're on the right path

I came across this picture today. It looks so beautiful and idyllic. I was on a family vacation in PEI and during this trip I was happy. Each day was leisurely and I was spending time with my boys and my loving husband. We had adventures hiking and fishing and I woke up a few mornings for yoga by sunrise.

At that time in my life, however, I was so lost. I had left my career in nursing about a year and a half before this photo was taken. I didn't know it at the time. However, looking back now, I was suffering from a deep sense of lack of purpose and identity. I remember dreading going to dinner parties and meeting new people. That one question we always ask when we meet new people... "what do you do?" or "where do you work?" always left me stumbling for words.

It would be another year after this picture was taken before I would make my way into the yoga teacher training that forever altered my life and helped me to once again find the passion that helped me to feel purpose in my life again. This picture though caught my interest this morning because it reminded me of the woman who I met on the beach that day all those years ago. She strolled up to me mid-practice and said that she had always wanted to practice yoga and that seeing me there on the beach had really peaked her interest. We talked for a while and it was lovely. There is something wonderful about the graceful movements of yoga and the flow of the breath that breaks down barriers and opens hearts allowing perfect strangers to have moments like we did on the beach that morning.

I suppose in the moment on that beach all those years ago, a seed was planted in my soul. How special it was that my intention to practice could inspire another to find their way to these tools that were helping me in my time of darkness.

Yet there I was so lost and unaware of where my life path would take me. Now, years later with all this added perspective, it is so apparent to me. Feeling lost is how you know you're on the right path. There is no wrong choice in life. It all leads you perfectly in this meandering path to your true calling. You can't mess up. You are always the person you were meant to be. You are always enough.
